Name: Josiah aka JDA

Not afraid to think outside of the box, JDA’s approach to dj’ing has made him a firm favourite with crowds & promoters all over London who appreciate more than the “standard” party music policy. From thugged out hip hop to energetic new jack swing, JDA has helped to establish the defining sound of excelENTS.

Age: 27

Music Style:
Pure entertainment - anything & everything from the latest sub genre in Hip Hop (Hyphy HAS to blow this year – snap is soooo 2006) to serious 80’s pop (as in Rick Astley, Spandau Ballet & Culture Club) bar reggae/bashment (my “anti-reggae” stance goes back to a long story involving my brothers, my sister, one radio between all of us and a game of blackjack).

Why did you start djing (Summary of dj career to date):
I was brought up on a steady diet of rare groove, soul & hip hop by my older brothers - They had the records, the decks - everything. But, I was never really into music until I was 14... Then, music just took over – buying records, teaching myself how to mix, even “produce” beats on my Yamaha keyboard - I’d even wake up with vinyl in my bed! I spun at my first party when I was 15, a block party in Stratford, and the dj’ing bug started there, although I never really thought it would be more than a house party here and there until the end of uni…big up to Kobz for giving me the push to take it more seriously!

Favourite song of all time:
“I Used to Love H.E.R” by Common Sense

Favourite film:
A toss up between House Party 1 & Coming to America

Favourite food:
Gari, Fried snapper & shitto pepper made by the old man

If I ruled the world, I would…
make sure the kids had something positive to aspire to.
